Organizational Sketch: The Dothan Study Club was one of many women's clubs in the city.  It consisted of 24 members whose purpose was to encourage "Interest in and a real knowledge of Literature, Art, Science and all questions of vital moment" (Constitution & By-Laws, 1987).  It was organized and joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs in 1912.  The club held meetings on a bi-weekly or monthly basis at the homes of its members from September to May.  Its motto was "Shall we in all things look for the how, the why, and the wherefore" (Annual program, 2001-2002).

Scope / Content Note:  Documents the organization, mission, programs, and activities of the Dothan Study Club.  Contains governing documents, meeting minutes, annual programs, correspondence, and records on finances and membership.

Organization: Organized into four series.

Series 1: Annual Programs, 1937-2002 [8 files / 1 per decade]: [a.k.a. Annual Programs] Document the yearly lessons for the Dothan Study Club. Includes club motto and colors, the "Collect of Club Women" (a prayer meant to begin each meeting), list of current officers and committee members, membership roster with phone numbers, and planned programs complete with information on hostess, program topic and presenter.

Series 2: Office Files, 1935-1997 [4 files]: Documents the operations of the Dothan Study Club.  Includes a constitution and bylaws, 1954, 1975 & 1987.

Series 3: Meeting Minutes, 1917-1994 [20 notebooks]: Documents the meetings of the Dothan Study Club. Meetings were held on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Includes attendance and meeting minutes as recorded by the club's secretary.

Series 4: Financial Records, 1927-1959 [2 ledgers]: Documents the financial actions of the Dothan Study Club. Includes dues, fines, deposits and disbursements.

Provenance: The Dothan Study Club stored their records at the Houston Love Memorial Library. When the Library moved to a new building in 2014, it sent collections that clubs had not retrieved to the Wiregrass Archives.
