Biographical Sketch: Rachel Dobson, Communications Specialist and Visual Resources Curator at The University of Alabama, Dept of Art & Art History, is a scholar of Pentecostalism in early 20th century Alabama. Her great grandfather, Lafayette "Fate" Snellgrove, was an early minister of the Assembly of God church.
The Assembly of God Church was incorporated in April 1914 at Hot Springs, Arkansas. Snellgrove was ordained in October 1914, receiving his certificate of ordination dated November 24, 1915.
Snellgrove had grown up in the Victoria settlement of Coffee County, AL, lived in the Gilley Precinct near Wicksburg, Houston County, Alabama, and was ordained in Florala, Alabama.

Scope / Content Note: Digital image (jpg) of Lafayette Snellgrove's certificate of ordination housed online and one copy of The Alabama Review: A Quarterly Journal of Alabama History, January 2017, containing an article by Ms. Dobson and autographed by her. Also contains a digital copy of her Alabama Review article.
