Area V

Dance

This major is available through the Dothan and Troy Campuses.

 

AREA I-V Recommendations

AREA I:

A grade of "C" or higher is required in Composition I and II at ¿ìè³É°æÊÓƵ.  "D" grades will not transfer.

 

AREA II:

Students attending TROY are required to take World Literature I and World Literature II.  Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take ENG 271 and ENG 272 (World Lit I/II) to meet this requirement.

 

Students attending TROY are required to take Theatre Appreciation. Students attending a community college are strongly encouraged to take THR 120 or THR 126 (Theatre Appreciation or Intro to Theatre) to meet this requirement.

 

When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.

 

AREA III:

A grade of "C" or higher is required in the Math course chosen.  "D" grades will not transfer.

 

AREA IV:

When selecting courses from Areas II and IV, please note that at least one 6sh sequence in either Literature (Area II) or History (Area IV) must be completed.

 

AREA V:

SPECIAL NOTE:  ¿ìè³É°æÊÓƵ students are NOT required to complete 8sh of a Foreign Language.  If completed at the community college, these hours will apply in Area II or as free elective credit, whichever is needed. In addition, TROY students are NOT required to complete BIO 101 or MUS 101. If completed, these hours will apply in Areas II/III, or as free elective credit.

 

The remaining 19 SH in Area V can be obtained at the community college by taking 19 SH of courses from the following:

• ORI 101 (Orientation to College) (1 SH)
• DNC 110 (Intro to Dance) (2 SH)
• DNC 121 (Elementary Ballet I) (2 SH)
• DNC 143 (Ballet Technique I) (3 SH)
• DNC 144 (Ballet Technique II) (3 SH)
• DNC 243 or 244 (Ballet Technique III or IV) (3 SH)
• ENG 271/272 (World Lit I/II) (3-6 SH) – if not taken in Area II
• THR 120 or 126 (Theatre Appreciation or Intro to Theatre) (3 SH)-if not taken in Area II

 

¿ìè³É°æÊÓƵ Baccalaureate Degrees

The student seeking a baccalaureate degree must meet the following credit hour requirements:

1. A minimum of 120 SH
2. At least 50 percent of the degree program must be traditional academic credit.
3. No more than 25 percent of the degree program may be earned using portfolio based credit.
4. At least 25 percent of the degree program must be completed with ¿ìè³É°æÊÓƵ.
5. Twelve (12) semester hours of work in each major field must be completed in residence at ¿ìè³É°æÊÓƵ.
