Student Internships/REU at Other Locations

2021-2022

In summer of 2021, Brennan was offered an Electronic Test Engineer internship position at Lockheed Martin鈥檚 missile and fire control branch at Pike County operations facility here in Troy AL. As a Test Engineer Intern, he got a chance to learn about ordnance handling, mechanical assembly, electronic testing, factory automation, industrial processes, technical writing, teaming, and continuous improvement techniques. This internship also offered him to develop skills necessary to read and interpret engineering drawings & specifications to develop manufacturing processes, special tooling, and unique factory equipment; software systems to develop manufacturing work instruction, analyze data, support test troubleshooting, and design/document process flows. Finally, with his training he was able to investigate root cause of equipment鈥檚 or devices failures/defects and implement preventative/corrective actions to support continuous improvement.

In Spring 2022, Michael was offered with an internship position at Brundidge Electronics Corporation. At  Brundidge Electronics, Michael is stationed in the touch-up department, where he inspects the quality of the circuit boards. His tasks allied to inspect the circuits boards for missing or disorientated electronics components. He then takes the appropriate steps to correct the issue. With this internship, he is building skill sets that includes learning soldering (both through-hole and surface mount), creative problem-solving, operating devices such as a microscope and various soldering irons.

The U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program is an extracurricular science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) outreach activity that engages school鈥恆ged students in hands鈥恛n, inquiry鈥恇ased experiments and nurtures students鈥 interest in STEM career fields. Near鈥恜eer mentors prepare materials for implementing STEM experiments, teach experiments to the students, and serve as role models to the students by promoting science and math courses and by acting as expert resources concerning college life and career pathways. Mentors are thoroughly trained in the conduct of the GEMS modules and in basic methods and practices of teaching.
